Unterföhring, Germany, October 24, 2017 — Shopping is becoming the ultimate television viewing experience: Right in time for the new year, satellite households can also receive the QVC channel in Ultra HD for free via Astra at 19.2 degrees east. This is the seventh channel in Germany to broadcast in ultra-high definition via satellite. An agreement has been reached to distribute QVC UHD for ten years.
Global media service provider MX1 and digital retailer QVC are also expanding their partnership in other ways: “MX1 will provide the HEVC encoding of the Ultra HD live signal as well as the uplink to the Astra satellite. In addition to distributing the TV shopping channel in UHD, the agreement includes an extension of HD and SD transmission over the next few years,” says Christoph Mühleib, managing director of Astra Germany, responsible for the marketing of Astra and MX1 services in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Mathias Bork, CEO QVC Germany, comments on the launch: “We want to offer our customers an optimal shopping experience at all times through our different sales channels. Our goal is that our viewers receive our TV program in the best picture quality. Broadcasting in Ultra HD makes this possible.”
