Company

AFP is a global news agency delivering fast, accurate, in-depth coverage of the events shaping our world from conflicts to politics, economics, sports, entertainment and the latest breakthroughs in health, science and technology. With 2,400 staff spread across almost every country, AFP covers the world 24 hours a day in six languages. AFP delivers the news in video, text, photos, multimedia and graphics to a wide range of customers including newspapers and magazines, radio and TV channels, web sites and portals, mobile operators, corporate clients as well as public institutions.

Business need

AFP sought a global company to help it develop its live video offer, improve the flexibility of their delivery and better address the various needs of its clients worldwide. Where previously they delivered only one HD news feed over satellite to broadcasters and publishers, they needed the ability to deliver four simultaneous feeds and make them available to any type of media

Solution

MX1 provides a complete range of digital media services including processing and delivering aggregated news content over a secure IP-based news distribution workflow, facilitated by the new branded platform. Services include:

  • Four news signal acquisition from AFP, delivered to MX1 by fibre, fed into the branded portal and delivered by secure IP link
  • AFPTV Live platform , branded portal for AFP customers allowing them to :
    • View the four high quality channels and select the ones they wish to receive
    • Plan their coverage and output
    • Interact with AFPTV’s team in real-time

Results

Delivering multiple news feeds from a centralised service platform means  AFP is now able to offer concurrent news feeds to its customers through a solution purpose-built to fit its needs. This enables AFP to provide more content and improved editorial information, while also opening up the opportunity to upsell its service.

Having MX1 engaged in mission-critical content preparation and delivery tasks in the background and by offering multiple feeds in an ever-changing news landscape, gives AFP the ability to provide news as it happens, to news organisations. This also allowed the agency to concentrate resources on its core task of ensuring fast-turnaround, quality coverage of breaking news stories in a highly competitive global marketplace.
